Irish Rain Photography

The full moon rose over the Irish Sea last night very shortly after sunset. It was the perfect conditions for photographing a moon rise. There was very little cloud or wind, and the setting sun lit the moon in warm light. Looking at The photographer’s Ephemeris (TPE) app I could see that it was going to rise right beside or behind the Bailey Lighthouse in Howth. So, despite being sick all week, I grabbed my camera and went down to take a few shots. I’m happy enough with the results… next time I’d like to get it directly behind the lighthouse.

I am a part of a great camera club here in Dublin - Shoutout to the Raheny Camera Club. Last night we got together to watch a documentary on the great photographer Ansel Adams. I found his story to be really inspiring, and it REALLY made me want to go and visit some of his favorite places. I was, however, excited to see a few a few of his photos of places I visited this past summer. Some of these photos were ones I had never seen before. I was especially surprised to see some of his photos of Canyon de Chelly. I had no idea that he had photographed there. Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised. Ansel was prolific. Here is one of my photos of Spider Rock. It is kinda cool to think that he stood in the same spot and took a similar image!

It has felt like one of the longest winters I’ve ever had in Ireland. Rainy day after rainy day really has had me down and dragging over the past month. Thankfully - we are starting to get glimpses of spring weather…. Hopefully more will come!
