Our flight from London back to the USA took us to Chicago and then on to Alabama. The flights were fine and not really all that noteworthy with the exception of about an hour somewhere over Tennessee. Our flightpath took us right next to a massive thunderstorm. We rarely have lightning in Ireland, and I can’t tell you how amazing it was to see it from the window of an airplane. The whole plane sat in silence watching the flashes of lightening just outside our windows…
This one was taken just after takeoff in Chicago.

The cabin of the plane was so bright that it created a horrible reflection on the window. It was so bad that I had to use a travel neck pillow as a makeshift blind to block out most of the window. In the end, I ended up with some interesting photos.

If you know me – you know that I LOVE being an uncle. I love being the fun uncle that gets to come in and gets the kids all riled up.
I love being able to be goofy with an audience that ‘gets’ my funny jokes. I come from a big family and I have more than ample opportunity to be an uncle…. but living far away means that I don’t get to have special moments as often as I would like. In fact, I often feel like I miss out on much of the big events in my nieces’ and nephews’ lives… and that just sucks. So… whenever we have the opportunity to be with one of them, we work really hard to really make time count. We want it to be memorable – not just for us – but for a nieces and nephews. I’m grateful to say that we get to be and uncle and aunt to our friends R&B’s little girls. In fact, LG calls me “Tío Paco” which means “Uncle Paco” in Spanish and she calls Dee “Aunt Dee”. I love it! And I love that we have two more little nieces to love. It is such a blessing to know that we are going to see these little girls grow up and that we are going to play some part (even if it is a small part) in their lives.

We have made a quick trip back over to London for the birth of some of our best/oldest friends’ new little girl. We can’t tell you just how much fun it has been to be here for such a BIG event! Our friends already have one little girl, and we were here to take care of her while her mom delivered her new little sister. Needless to say, we have been playing a lot and having a lot of fun. Oh… and I’ve taken a few photos along the way.

We continued driving up into Utah and then eventually into Nevada. Along the way we took a lot of photos from the car window and occasionally stopped to soak in the beauty all around us.
Here is a pic Dee got along the way…

The landscapes in this part of the world were awe inspiring. Almost every direction had a unique beauty. There was, however, one thing that stood out among the plateaus and rock formations…
